The KBOO Youth Collective is actually a Collectively Run Organization.
What makes us a collective is that the program is youth driven, and consensus driven. We share the privileges of creative control and decision making, and the responsibility to watch each others back, to make space for new members, and to teach other what we know. The different participants have roles that rotate, such as Meeting Facilitator (we have weekly meetings), Producer (who keeps things organized and running while we are on the air, and is responsible for the creation of the run sheet, and also for filling up the air time if a guest flakes, or something unexpected happens), Engineer (who runs the board and equipment while we are on the air), Promo Person (is responsible for making our on-air promos for a particular show, as well as flyer making and other promotional duties), and other roles.

How to Join the KBOO Youth Collective:
To be a member of the Youth Collective, you need to attend 2 meetings. At the second meeting, you’ll be asked to fill out a contact sheet, and sign up on the Youth List Serve on the internet. We’ll then schedule an Introduction to Digital Editing training, where you will make a Promo. After that, we’ll get you involved in producing work for the KBOO Youth Collective. You will continue to learn to use the production rooms, equipment, and use of the other resources here.
We meet every Wednesday at 6 pm at the KBOO Studios. Meetings last about an hour.

Trainings
We have classes to sharpen your radio skills. In Digital Editing Training you’ll make a promo, and get an introduction to Digital Editing. During Volunteer Orientation Ani (KBOO Volunteer Coordinator) tells us how to be a responsible member of the KBOO Community, and what your rights and responsibilities are as a volunteer. Digital Recorder Training happens during Youth Collective meetings, or on a one-to-one basis, depending on your project. You’ll learn how to use the Mini Disc and Digital Voice recorders that KBOO has to record interviews in “the field”, out in the world. We also have trainings in using the different production rooms, air-room engineering, news writing, interviewing, field recording, and more.
